Every beam you analyze right today is one less doubt on-site tomorrow.
A diploma student asks Sumantrak
“explain the difference between load bearing and framed structure”
In a load-bearing structure, the walls themselves carry the entire building load straight down to the foundation — common in low-rise buildings. In a framed structure, columns and beams carry the load while walls are just partitions with no structural role — used for taller buildings since it allows more open floor plans. Viva tip: examiners often ask why framed structures are preferred for multi-story buildings — load-bearing walls get impractically thick as you add floors.
